This policy explains what information the Spark Phonics app (“the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and the choices you have. Spark Phonics is a phonics learning app for young children. Accounts are created and managed by a parent, guardian, or teacher — not by children.

1. Information we collect

Account details (from the adult): name and mobile phone number (required to create an account), and email address (optional).
Phone verification: we send a one-time password (OTP) by SMS to confirm the phone number.
Access status: whether the account has been unlocked for the full course, and when it was last used.
Diagnostics (crash reports): if the app has a technical error, it may send a report containing a randomly-generated app install identifier, the error message, app version, and general device/browser type, so we can fix bugs. This identifier is not linked to your name and is not an advertising identifier.
On-device only: learning progress and star rewards are stored locally on your device and are not sent to us. They are removed if you uninstall the app.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone audio, or any personal information from children. The app contains no third-party advertising and no third-party analytics/tracking.

2. How we use information

To create and manage the account and verify the phone number.
To unlock full course access after the parent arranges access with us.
To keep the app working and diagnose crashes.
To contact you about your account or access when you reach out to us.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we never sell your personal information.

3. Children’s privacy

Spark Phonics is intended for use by children under the supervision of an adult. All personal information (name, phone, email) is provided by the parent/guardian or teacher who sets up the account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

4. Who we share it with (service providers)

We use trusted service providers only to run the app on our behalf. They process data under our instructions and do not use it for their own purposes:

Supabase — secure database and backend hosting.
2Factor.in — sends the verification OTP to your phone.

We may also disclose information if required by law.

5. Data retention

We keep account information for as long as the account exists. Crash diagnostic reports are automatically deleted after about 30 days. When you delete your account, your account data is removed promptly (see below).

6. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time:

In the app: open My Rewards (the ⭐ in the top corner) and tap “Delete my account.”
On the web / by request: see our account deletion page, or contact us using the details below.

Deletion is permanent and removes your name, phone number, email, access status, and any crash reports linked to your phone number.

7. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored by our hosting provider with encryption at rest. Secret keys are held on our server and are never included in the app.

8. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. You can withdraw consent by deleting your account.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version.
